Established in 2015, Pulse Hotels & Resorts is owned by Deep Blue Private Limited, an investment company specialising in the high-end tourism as well as tourism-related businesses in the Maldives which was founded in 2005 by Dr. I. U. Maniku, a Maldivian hospitality icon and visionary entrepreneur who was instrumental in creating many award-winning resorts. The Company has a proven track record of delivering innovative and complex tourism and tourism-related development projects in the Maldives, and whose principals are stalwarts of the Maldivian tourism industry and possess decades of experience and detailed knowledge of the Maldives and the intricacies of its tourism industry. Deep Blue Private Limited brings decades of experience, expertise, insights, established values and a solid financial base to Pulse Hotels & Resorts, which is led by Mr. Sanjay Maniku, and Mr. Mohamed Khaleel.
In 2005 Deep Blue Private Limited acquired the leasehold rights of the Islands of Veligandu Huraa, Kuda Huraa, Bodu Huraa and Dhigufinolhu (a group of 4 islands) in South Male Atoll Maldives and subsequently subleased the islands to Eutopia Holdings Pvt. Ltd., which developed the Anantara Digu Resort & Spa, Anantara Veli Resort & Spa (www.anantara.com) and Naladhu Resorts (www.naladhu.com) on the site. Eutopia Holdings is a joint venture with the Minor Hotels Group of Thailand.
In 2008 Deep Blue leased the islands of Olhuveli and Embudhufushi and developed Niyama Private Islands Maldives, a 134 room premium luxury resort which opened in 2012 and is today managed by Minor Hotels (www.niyama.com). Niyama has developed a reputation as one of the top luxury resorts in the Maldives.
In 2014 the company diversified its portfolio by establishing Eagle Marine & Engineering Pvt. Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary, specializing in manufacture of state of the art cargo boats, dive and game-fishing boats and luxury speed launches of various configurations targeting local Transport, Fishing and Leisure sector as well as repair and maintenance of various vessels owned by the company’s subsidiaries and affiliates.
Also, in 2014, Deep Blue developed Kandima Maldives, and a regional airport on the islands of Kandinma and Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu atoll in the Maldives. Reollo Investments is an affiliate of Deep Blue with common shareholders and had acquired the 50 year leasehold rights for the islands from the Maldivian government in 2013. A number of JV companies were formed for these ventures: Dhaalu Airport Holdings Pvt Ltd, a 80% owned subsidiary, operates a fully fledged regional Airport with an 1800 meter runway in the Island of Dh. Kudahuvadhoo. Kandinma Holdings Pvt Ltd developed Kandima, a 270 room 5 star active lifestyle resort in Dhaalu atoll which opened in 2017. www.kandima.com. Deep Blue Pvt. Ltd. retains a majority share in both of these JV companies.
In 2019 The Nautilus, an ultra-luxury bohemian hideaway, was added to the portfolio. Moving forward, the company continued to leverage its strong cash flows and expertise in the Maldives to look for further investments in the hospitality, realty, medical or aviation sectors where there are still significant opportunities for growth and development.
In 2019 Manta Air, a Maldivian domestic airline, began its operations and flies to four different destinations in the Maldives with xx seaplanes and its three-ATR fleet. Deep Blue is the major shareholder of Manta Air and Mr. Mohamed Khaleel is the CEO of Manta Air.
Mr. Sanjay Maniku is also an Executive Director and shareholder of Universal Resorts, the pioneering establishment that has led the development of tourism industry of the Maldives for over 46 years. With a diverse portfolio of eight distinctive and successful properties, Universal Resorts has set the benchmark for the Maldives and has constantly evolved to set new standards for others to follow.
Additionally, Mr. Sanjay Maniku is the CEO & Managing Director of Male’ Aerated Water Company (MAWC), the first company which started the manufacturing of beverages and has been serving the Republic of Maldives with world-class norms and quality products for the past 30 years. MAWC produces 13 international brands with flagship brand Coca-Cola and 55 SKU’s with the association of Coca-Cola, the global market leader in soft drinks.
